Starting the New Year off Right!

new-year-2015-wishes-messages-600x400As we enter into 2015 there are a few things that we need to be doing to get the year off to a good start you’re anything like me, you took careful notes on what to do and what not to do in the future. Getting your new year off to a banging start here’s the TOP 5 things you need to do to get 2015 Started off RIGHT!

  1. Evaluate what went right and what went wrong. We are not perfect and sometimes after we do something we realize that it was not the best course of action for us to take. It’s never too late to make things right and change your course.
  2. Take some time and call each of your clients personally. A lot of times we are so busy and used to using email that we forget to provide a personal touch to our services. Schedule a time to call your clients and find out what is going on with them. See if there is anything else that they would like for you to assist them with. Sometimes your clients need more help than they let on and it’s either because they are unsure you can handle the work or they just feel like they have given you too much to do already. Assure them that you can handle their needs, even if you must get a subcontractor to take care of it for you.
  3. Clean your computer. Get an external hard drive and or cloud storage like Google Drive or Drop box and save your files so that you can remove any files that you are not currently using from your computer. In all honesty you should be doing this anyway to back up your files just in case your computer crashes. There are several cloud backup systems that you could use like Carbonite & Symform. Regularly backing up your system keeps your documents safe. Every 6 months I go through my documents and remove them from my hard drive if I am no longer using them to free up the memory on my computer. I have my documents backed up on Google Drive, and Symform so that I have 3 copies of everything. This weekend I will be purchasing an external hard drive just so that I can have something outside of the cloud as another back up to have an additional access point if needed.
  4. Time to do your end of year close out! Pull out all of your receipts and review your financials. This is a good time to get everything prepared for your Accountant/tax preparer. I also suggest that you make copies of all of your receipts as you get them. Scan them onto your computer in a folder labeled receipts for the current year. This will ensure that you have accurate records.
  5. It’s the New Year, so people are looking for assistance and getting their businesses in order. This is the prime time to start reaching out to potential clients that you made contact with last year. Give them a call; see how things are going with them. Don’t try to sell them, just put that little bug in their ear to remind them that you are around and available if they ever need you. No need to be pushy. You will be surprised at how many people will end up calling you back and/or referring someone else to you based off of your non-sales pitch follow-up call.

By taking these five (5) steps you are off to a good start and ready to handle whatever comes your way!  I hope you found this beneficial. I would love to hear what you have to add to the list.  Your comments are appreciated.

Wishing you a fantastic and prosperous 2015!

How authentic are you?

Last year I had the pleasure of meeting someone and they introduced me to the book, “The 40 Day Soul Fast, Your Journey to Authentic Living” by Cindy Trimm. I must admit when I first joined the group for this Soul Fast, I wasn’t really “ALL IN”. I wanted to start living authentically, however I found that I was not ready to answer a lot of the questions that were being asked in the book. I wasn’t ready to face who I was. On December 30, the group had their last conference call and everyone seemed to have some type of clarity as to who they were and felt as if they were living more authentically than before. I, on the other hand felt like I failed… I felt as if I was missed whatever the other members of the group had gained. As I listened to each one share their testimonies of how they completed the fast, I made up in my mind that I was going to start over on January 1st. What better time than the beginning of the year right?

I am now on day 9 and I can tell you that I have never felt better! I feel that this time around I am really engaged in the process. This time I purchased my own book and journal, before I went to the library and checked out the book and downloaded the app that I had only looked at the first time I downloaded it. I am finding that being authentic is the only way to be in life. Authenticity starts with being honest with yourself. No sugarcoating the truth…no beating around the bush…being 100% RAW! Let’s be honest, if you are not honest with yourself, how can you truly be honest to and with others?

I still have 31 days left on this fast and I can tell that by the end of this 40 day fast I will be a new person! Just from re-reading these 9 chapters and remembering bits and pieces of the chapters that I had read previously I have learned that I cannot tell people it is okay when it really isn’t. Being authentic does not mean that you should be rude and/or condescending to others, it just means that you need to be honest with them, even if it is going to hurt their feelings.

Being authentic in your personal life will carry over into your business as well. Your potential clients/customers will be able to see if you are trying to just make a dollar off of them or if you genuinely care about their well-being and giving them exactly what they need without the extra fluff. An authentic Business owner will not focus on padding his/her pockets. They will focus on ensuring that they help their client be a success!

Are you ready to be an AUTHENTIC? Here are a few authenticity quizzes that I found online to help you find out how authentic you are.

Here are some steps that can help you to become more authentic:

  1. Accept who you are! You are you and no one else can be you! You do not have to live up to anyone’s expectation of who they think you should be.
  2. Be YOU! Do not try to fit in with everyone. You do not have to dance to the beat of the same drum as everyone else. Do not be afraid to be who you are unapologetically! You are you and that is what is important! Keeping up with the Joneses has done nothing good for anyone!
  3. Take risk! Take the bulls by horns and do what you feel is right. If it turns out being wrong, well, accept responsibility for it and move on.
  4. Accept the uncomfortable feelings. They are your feelings and you should address them. If someone is invading your personal space and or commenting on your life and you do not want them to, tell them. Be direct and honest.
  5. Stick with people who pour into you. You do not want to be around people who bring you down. Be with people who feed your spirit and uplift you.

Affirmations for the New Year!

What is an affirmation? An affirmation is the action or process of affirming something or being affirmed. Affirmations are very important to help you stay positive and keep your eyes on your goals. By repeating affirmations daily to yourself you are speaking life into your personal and business life. Many celebrities say affirmations daily like Oprah Winfrey, Iyanla Vanzant, and Will Smith to name a few. They have used affirmations to help better their lives.

Over the last year I started reciting and posting affirmations. During this time I transformed the way that I was thinking about myself and my business. I have changed the negative tape recorder in my head to a positive reinforcing replay. Since I started reciting and posting affirmations my business has actually started growing. I, as a person has grown as well. I am more confident in areas of my life that I lacked confidence. I have changed a few of my affirmations because of this growth. Every once in a while when I feel that those old feeling are coming back I look back to my old affirmations and read them to help build me back up.

I also have a vision board to assist with affirming what I want out of. I have my vision board as my cover photo on Facebook and hanging in my bedroom so it’s the first and last thing I see. On my vision board I have pictures and words that declare where I want to be in the near future. Using affirmations not only helps you to get through the current day but it gives you a sense of strength and accomplishment as you reach each of your goals!

I have compiled a list of affirmations that I have read from others and that I have written myself. Please feel free to use these and/or create your own affirmations that fit your life/business.
